Do you think we're moving toward an "Agent-first" future where traditional SaaS becomes just infrastructure?
Curious to hear what everyone is building and where you think the market is headed.
I think 'agent-first' undersells how much boring plumbing still has to exist underneath for any of this to actually work reliably — auth, data access, permissions, all the SaaS stuff nobody wants to rebuild. My bet is agents become the interface layer on top of SaaS rather than a replacement for it, at least for anything enterprise-y where compliance matters.
The part I keep circling back to is that SaaS was never really the software. It was the workflow, the compliance story, and having someone to blame when it breaks at 2am. Agents are getting good at the first of those and are nowhere near the other two. My guess is seat-based pricing takes the hit well before the products themselves do.
The thing these threads usually skip is accountability. A SaaS vendor sells you the software plus an SLA and someone to shout at when it breaks at 2am. An agent that quietly does the wrong thing across a thousand records has no equivalent, and nobody has really priced that in yet. My guess is agents eat workflows inside tools well before they eat the tools.
The 'agents replace SaaS' framing feels a little binary to me. A lot of SaaS is just going to quietly grow an agent layer on top of the data it already owns rather than get replaced wholesale. The moat was never the UI, it's the integrations and the proprietary data underneath.
I think "replacing" is the wrong frame — a lot of SaaS is quietly becoming the tools the agents call, rather than the UI a human clicks. The products that expose clean APIs and become the thing an agent orchestrates seem fine; the ones whose entire moat was a pretty dashboard are the nervous ones. Are you seeing it play out differently in any specific category?
I think it's less "replacing" and more "compressing." The thin CRUD-wrapper SaaS is in trouble, but anything with real workflow depth, integrations, and trust is safer than the hype suggests. Agents are great demos and still shaky on the boring reliability stuff enterprises actually pay for.
Adding a slightly contrarian angle: agents are eating the thin 'CRUD wrapper' SaaS, sure, but the hard part of most software was never the UI — it's the messy integrations, the permissions, the edge cases, and who's accountable when something goes wrong. An agent that's right 95% of the time is a great demo; the last 5% is where the real product (and the moat) lives. I think it changes what we build more than it deletes the category.

The moat was rarely the UI — it's the data, the integrations, the permissions/compliance layer. Agents still need somewhere trustworthy to actually do the thing. Thin wrapper-y SaaS is in trouble; the ones that own the workflow and the data just get an agent-shaped front door and arguably become more valuable. Curious which category you had in mind — horizontal tools or vertical?
Slightly different take from the comments above: I think the moat just shifts from 'features' to 'proprietary data + workflow lock-in.' An agent can wrap any generic tool, but it can't recreate ten years of a customer's data and integrations. So thin SaaS is exposed, but deep-data SaaS might get more valuable as the interface layer commoditizes.

Adding to this — the part I rarely see mentioned is trust and liability. An agent can draft the invoice, but a business still wants a system of record it can audit when something goes wrong. That accountability layer is sticky in a way a chat interface isn't. Agents change the UI; the boring, compliance-heavy SaaS underneath tends to survive longest.

To add a concrete data point: we swapped an internal ops tool (used to be a paid SaaS seat) for an agent that reads our tickets and drafts responses. It didn't kill the category, but we did churn off one vendor. That feels like the actual pattern to me — not "SaaS dies" but the long tail of thin-wrapper SaaS getting absorbed, while the ones with a real data moat stay sticky.
