Switched from teaching high school to QA at 34, wish someone had told me the portfolio matters more than the syllabus

Spent the first four months of the transition doing every course I could find, collecting certificates like they'd speak for themselves. What actually got me interviews was two small projects I built and wrote up properly, not the list of completed courses. Should've started building in month one instead of month five.
