Small thing that helped: writing the actual question down before answering it in mock interviews

Kept catching myself answering the question I expected instead of the one that was asked, especially under time pressure. Started literally typing the question into a notes doc before responding, even in casual mock sessions. Slows things down by maybe ten seconds but I stopped going on tangents that weren't relevant to what was asked.
