Two years in and only just realized asking clarifying questions in technical interviews is a good thing

Used to think asking questions before coding made me look like I didn't understand the problem, so I'd just start typing and hope it worked out. A senior engineer mentioned offhand that she docks candidates who don't ask anything at all. Started asking about edge cases and constraints before writing code and interviews have felt less like guessing ever since.
