Doing a mock system design interview with a peer instead of alone changed how I explain tradeoffs

Practiced system design solo for weeks, reading through designs and nodding along like I understood the reasoning. First mock with an actual peer, they kept stopping me mid-sentence asking "why that and not the alternative," and I realized I could describe a design but not really defend one. Doing peer mocks weekly now instead of solo reading.
