Left a stable job for a startup that folded four months later, here's what I'd tell myself before jumping
#career-growth#job-search
Had eleven months of runway per the founders when I joined. Company ran out of money in four, laid off the whole eng team on a Tuesday with two weeks severance. Don't regret trying, learned more in those four months than the previous year, but I'd ask way harder questions about actual revenue and burn rate next time instead of taking the pitch deck at face value.

AnonymousAnon Following up on the burn rate point, I've started asking directly how many months of runway are covered by current revenue versus the last funding round. People are usually honest if you ask it that specifically.

AnonymousAnon Appreciate you sharing the burn rate lesson honestly instead of just the highlight reel version of leaving for a startup. Bookmarking this for next time I'm tempted.
