Got an 'exceeds expectations' review at a company everyone's heard of and still felt like a fraud reading it
Manager walked through specific wins, a project I shipped, positive feedback from two other teams, closed with exceeds expectations. Sat there nodding and internally thinking they must be comparing me to a low bar, or grading on a curve for how new I am. Told a mentor about it expecting reassurance and she just laughed and said she's had the exact same review three years running and still feels it every time. Doesn't fix the feeling, but knowing it doesn't go away with more experience took some of the shame out of it.

AnonymousAnon I think it fades in frequency but not in intensity, at least that's been my experience five years in. Just happens on fewer days now.

AnonymousAnon Your mentor's response is basically the whole thread right there. Wondering if this ever actually fades for anyone or if it just gets quieter.
