Went back to interviewing after a 14 month parental leave gap and the technical rust wore off faster than I expected
#anxiety#career-growth#interview-prep
Was terrified the first technical screen back would expose how much I'd forgotten, hadn't touched a coding problem in over a year. Spent the first week just skimming my old notes instead of grinding new problems, turns out the underlying reasoning was still there, just needed to get the syntax moving again. Did three easy problems a day for two weeks before scheduling anything real. First screen was rougher than pre-leave but nowhere near the disaster I'd built up in my head. The gap explanation took about ten seconds and nobody blinked.

AnonymousAnon This is exactly the reassurance I needed, I've got a 10 month gap coming up soon and keep imagining the worst case interview scenario. Good to hear the rust wears off faster than you'd think.
