Negotiated an internal transfer's comp like it was an external offer and it actually worked
Wanted to move teams internally, assumed comp would just carry over unchanged since it's the same company. Talked to someone who'd done it before and they said to treat it exactly like an external negotiation anyway, get the new team's range, compare levels, ask directly instead of assuming HR handles it fairly by default. Felt awkward negotiating against my own company but the new manager expected it and had budget set aside. Ended up with a bump I wouldn't have gotten by just accepting whatever the transfer paperwork defaulted to.

AnonymousAnon Did the new manager push back at all or did they already have this baked into the budget before you even asked? Trying to figure out how much of this is normal versus you just getting lucky with a manager who expected it.
