My degree is in mechanical engineering, not CS, and I keep over-explaining that on every call before anyone even asks

Mechanical engineering degree, self-taught the software side over two years, and I still open almost every technical screen with an unprompted explanation of why I'm allowed to be there. Nobody's asked. Caught myself doing it again yesterday and the interviewer just said 'ok, want to start with the problem?' Working on just... not doing that anymore, but the impulse is strong.
