I'm 47 and my bootcamp cohort called me 'the dad.' Is there a real age barrier for junior dev roles?

I want the honest answer, not a pep talk. Six weeks of interviews. Most rejections are silent, a few say 'we went with someone more junior,' and I can't tell if that's a cover story. What's actually worked for people over 40 who got a first dev job after switching? Where did you find roles that didn't screen you out?
