Job asks for 5 years of React and I have 3 years of Vue. Apply anyway?

Everything else on the posting lines up. My guess is the 5 years is a wish list, but I've been burned before when a 'nice to have' turned out to be the thing they screened on. What's your rule for these? Mine is 'apply if I'd be fine on day one,' but I know that's fuzzy.

Your day-one rule is fine. I'd add one thing: if the role is mostly a React build, do a small React project before the first call so you aren't caught out on the basics.

I'd apply. A lot of 'five years' lines are a screen for the recruiter, and the hiring manager usually cares more about whether you can ship. Put the Vue projects at the top of your summary and name the one thing you'd need to pick up on day one.
