Side projects: how do you pick one without it turning into a second job?

I have three half-built apps and a rule that I can only start a new one after I finish the current one. The rule keeps breaking because the current one always gets boring at the same point, which is the deployment step. Is that a sign I should pick different projects, or should I just push through the boring part?
