Went from 15 applications a week to 3 targeted ones. Better or worse?

For six weeks I blasted out about fifteen applications a week. I got two interviews and dreaded opening my inbox every Friday. Last month I picked three companies I actually cared about, read their engineering blogs, and wrote a short note for each. One interview, one take-home, one still waiting. It's slower, but I'm sleeping better and the interviews feel less like lottery tickets. Did anyone else change approach mid-search?
