Went from accounting to dev at 34. Does age show up in the first screen?

Anonymous2 hours ago

I've got a bootcamp, two projects, and about a decade of reconciling ledgers in spreadsheets. I keep worrying that the recruiter sees my age and my accounting job and decides I'm not serious. Has anyone switched later and felt it on the screening call?

The reconciliation years are an asset, honestly. Put the tools and the data-quality work on your resume and let the projects show you can code.

Switched at 37 from payroll. Nobody on the screening calls asked about age, but a couple asked why I left accounting, so have a clean two-sentence answer ready.
