First week reading an unfamiliar codebase. Where do you actually start?

I open main, read the entry point, and then I'm lost in the third folder. Someone on the team suggested starting from a failing test. I tried it on a small bug and it worked better than I expected. Anyone have a routine that doesn't eat the whole week?
