My first real PR came back with 40+ comments and I wanted to disappear

Genuinely considered quitting that night. Felt like proof I didn't belong. My lead pulled me aside the next day and said 'that many comments means we're taking you seriously — we don't bother with people we've written off.' Reframed the whole thing for me. Six months later I leave that many comments for new folks, with the same intent. If your review stung today: it's not a verdict on you.

40+ comments on an early PR is a rite of passage, not a verdict on you. Most of them are nits and style, and a senior taking the time usually means they think you're worth investing in. It stops stinging, promise.

40 comments means someone cared enough to actually teach you. The PRs that get zero comments are usually the ones nobody's reviewing seriously. It stings in the moment but save that thread — you won't repeat those mistakes again.

Needed to read this today — got my first big review this week and felt exactly like this. That reframe from your lead is gold: nitpicks mean investment, silence means they've given up on you. Did the volume of comments drop off fast once you learned the team's conventions, or is it just always like this?
