Negotiated a raise at my current job with no competing offer — here's what worked
Everyone says you need another offer to have leverage. I didn't have one and still got a solid bump. What worked: I spent a month writing down every project I shipped and its impact in plain numbers, brought it in as a one-pager, and framed it as 'here's the scope I've grown into' — not 'I want more money.' Made it easy for my manager to say yes. When you're staying put, anchor on your work, not the market.

AnonymousAnon Congrats, this is so underrated — everyone assumes you need a competing offer. Did you anchor with market data or with your own impact numbers? I always freeze on whether to name a figure first or let them.

AnonymousAnon The one-pager of shipped impact is such underrated advice. Managers usually want to say yes but they need ammo to take upstairs, and 'I feel underpaid' isn't ammo — numbers are. Question: did you tie it to a specific number/range you'd researched, or leave the amount open and let them come back? I never know whether to name a figure first.
