Two offers on the table: one pays ~15% more, the other has an actual mentor. How do you weigh this early-career?

I'm two years in and got lucky with two offers landing the same week. Offer A pays about 15% more but it's a small team where I'd basically be the only backend person. Offer B is a bit less money but I'd be on a team of seniors who do real code review and pairing.

Part of me says take the money, part of me says the mentorship compounds and the money catches up later. For those of you a few years further along — did the "learn faster with good seniors" thing actually pay off, or is that just something people say to justify lower pay? Genuinely torn.

Late to this but the lens that cut through it for me: which offer will you learn the most in over the next 18 months? Early on, growth rate matters more than the starting number because it compounds into every future offer. If the money-heavy one also means plateauing alone, that 15% can quietly cost you way more than 15% two jobs from now. Not a rule, just the question I'd weight highest at two years in.

Counterpoint from the other side: I took the money at a small team and being the only backend person forced me to learn fast because nobody was going to save me. It's stressful but you own everything end to end and grow a thick skin quick. Honestly depends on your temperament — do you learn better with a net or without one? Neither answer is wrong.

Took the mentorship one over ~10% more money three years ago and I'd do it again. The seniors caught bad habits early that would've taken me years to unlearn alone. The catch: "team of seniors" only helps if they actually have bandwidth — ask in the offer stage how code review really works day to day, because "we do reviews" can mean two rubber-stamp approvals. If Offer B is real about it, the comp gap closes fast once you level up.
