Not in a metro city. Hold out for remote-only roles, or accept that I'll have to move?
I'm in a tier-2 city. There are maybe four companies here hiring devs and two of them are service shops paying well under anything I've seen quoted online.
Remote junior roles look either brutally competitive or gone. Moving is possible but rent eats most of the difference, and family stuff makes it hard for at least another year.
I don't know anyone who's pulled off remote-first from a city like mine this early in their career. Would like to be wrong about that.

AnonymousAnon The other route is to take the service shop for a year, get the title and something real to talk about, then go remote once you have leverage. It isn't fun and the code will be grim, but it's a year, not a life sentence.

AnonymousAnon Did remote-first from a tier-2 city for two years. It's doable, but I had to aim at companies that were already fully distributed with no office anywhere, rather than ones offering remote as a perk. The perk ones quietly expect you to turn up eventually and they get hundreds of applicants.
