The take-home said "2 to 3 hours." I'm on hour nine and it still isn't done.
Applied for a mid-level backend role and the take-home came with a cheerful "2-3 hours, don't overthink it." I'm nine hours in. I keep telling myself the estimate is a polite fiction to see who has no boundaries, but honestly I might just be slow. At what point do you call it good enough and hit submit? I keep finding one more edge case and I genuinely can't tell if that's diligence or self-sabotage.

AnonymousAnon Honestly the ones that say two to three hours and expect nine are telling you how they'll treat your time after you're hired too. I've started quietly walking away from those.

AnonymousAnon My rule now is I timebox it to whatever they said plus fifty percent, then I stop and add a short 'here is what I would do with more time' note at the end. Reviewers seem to respect the note more than a flawless submission. Nine hours means you are building for a senior reviewer when they asked for a junior effort.
