Half my batch is pivoting to AI/ML. A year into web dev, I can't tell if I'm being stubborn or sensible.
Every second post is someone finishing an LLM course and landing something. Meanwhile I'm finally getting decent at backend work and it feels like the wrong decade to be writing CRUD. Is this an actual shift or the same cycle we all watched with blockchain? If you did move across, what did you genuinely need day to day, the math or just being able to wire APIs together sensibly?

AnonymousAnon Asking honestly because I'm in the same spot — how much of the "landing something" you're seeing is an actual job, versus a certificate and a LinkedIn post about it? Everyone in my circle who really moved across already had maths or data in their background. Not saying don't do it, just that the success rate online and the one I can verify look like different numbers.

AnonymousAnon I sit on an ML-adjacent team and most of the actual work is data plumbing, evals, and API glue. The maths only really shows up if you're training things, which almost nobody is. Your year of backend isn't the thing holding you back here, it's the thing half the LLM-course grads are missing when it's time to actually ship. I'd add to what you have rather than swap out of it.
