Nobody tells you "unlimited PTO" actually means "go find the unwritten limit yourself"
#first-job#workplace
Took a real week off in my first year, mentioned it was nice at a team lunch, and got a very slightly raised eyebrow from someone who apparently takes four days a year "because things are busy." No policy document, no guidance, just vibes I'm supposed to intuit. Asked my manager directly what's normal and even she gave a non-answer. Ended up just watching what the two most senior people on the team actually take and calibrating to that instead of the number in the handbook.

AnonymousAnon This is such a universal experience it's almost funny. Every 'unlimited PTO' team I've been on has an unspoken number everyone's afraid to test, usually somewhere around what a normal PTO policy would've given you anyway.
