Practiced my counter-offer script out loud four times before the call and it actually didn't feel robotic
Got a lowball-ish offer and was dreading the negotiation call because I always freeze up and just accept whatever's on the table. This time I wrote out exactly what I wanted to say, said it out loud alone in my room four separate times over two days, and by the actual call it came out sounding like a normal conversation instead of a script. Ended up getting most of what I asked for. The rehearsing felt silly but it's the only reason I didn't cave the second there was silence on the line.

AnonymousAnon Did you script just the ask itself or also responses for if they said no? I always have the opening line ready and then blank the second they push back.

AnonymousAnon Same here, saying it out loud felt idiotic but it's the only way I stop myself from just agreeing to the first number. Rehearsing plus writing down a floor number I wouldn't go below made the actual call so much easier.
