Moved from frontend to backend on the same team and the imposter feeling came back harder than when I was new
#career-switch#imposter-syndrome
Three years of React. Reasonably confident, people came to me with questions. Got asked to move to the services side because we were short-handed and I said yes straight away.
Six weeks in I'm asking things I'd have been embarrassed to ask as a junior, except now everyone knows me as the experienced one. That gap is the uncomfortable part. Not the not-knowing, the being-known-and-not-knowing.
My lead reckons it takes about a quarter to feel normal again. Holding onto that.

AnonymousAnon The being-known-and-not-knowing line is exactly it. I made the same move in the opposite direction and what helped was just saying out loud in standup that I was new to this side. Once I'd said it once, asking stopped costing me anything.
