Spent fourteen hours on a take-home that said "should take about two"

Went all in because I didn't want to seem like I'd cut corners, ended up adding tests, a README, error handling for cases they never asked about. Got an email back three weeks later, generic rejection, no feedback. Not sure if the extra hours mattered at all or if I just burned a Saturday. Next one I'm giving exactly the time they quote and stopping there, on principle if nothing else.
