Used to blast out a generic resume everywhere and track the number going up like it meant something. Switched to reading the actual posting and rewriting the top third of my resume for each one, which takes maybe forty minutes instead of four. Fewer applications, more callbacks so far, though the sample size is small enough that I'm hesitant to call it a real pattern yet.
