Got a counter offer from my current manager and it made the decision harder, not easier
External offer came in with a solid bump, brought it to my manager mostly as a courtesy, not expecting anything back. She came back within two days with a matched number and a promotion timeline that had apparently already been in the works. Now I'm choosing between a known team I like and a new place with more money and zero history. Money isn't actually the deciding factor here, which I did not expect to be true.

AnonymousAnon I went the other way, took the external offer despite a counter. No regrets a year later, though I'll admit the first few months of proving myself again did wear on me more than the raise made up for at first.

AnonymousAnon Been on the other end of this as the person who got the counter and stayed. Six months later the promotion happened basically on schedule so it wasn't just a retention tactic in my case. Not saying that's universal but it's not always a bluff.

AnonymousAnon Following this because I'm in almost the exact spot right now. Curious what tipped you, was it actually the promotion timeline or something less concrete like team culture?
