Panel interview with five people on the call and I couldn't tell who to actually look at

Kept defaulting to whoever asked the question, then realized partway through that the hiring manager hadn't said a word and was just watching. Found out afterward from a recruiter that's intentional, they want to see how you read a room, not just answer questions. Wish someone had told me that going in instead of me guessing during the call itself.
