Asked for remote days instead of more base salary and it worked better than the raise ask ever did

Company had a hard band on base for the level, no wiggle room, recruiter said so upfront. Instead of pushing on a number that wasn't moving I asked for two guaranteed remote days a week written into the offer letter. Manager said yes in the same call. Sometimes the thing you actually want isn't the thing everyone tells you to negotiate for.
