Quit without another offer lined up and did the runway math out loud so I'd actually believe it
Everyone says don't quit without something else lined up and generally that's right. But the job was actively making me worse at interviewing because I had no energy left after work. Sat down, wrote out exactly how many months of expenses I had saved against a realistic search timeline, and the number was less scary written down than it was in my head. Two months in, still searching, still glad I did the math instead of just hoping.

AnonymousAnon The number always sounds smaller on paper. I did the same exercise and realized I'd been mentally rounding my savings down and my expenses up, the real gap was way more forgiving than the version in my head.

AnonymousAnon Did almost the exact same math before I quit last year. Writing the actual number down instead of just feeling vaguely scared about money changed the decision completely for me too.
