Moved teams internally instead of quitting and it fixed almost everything I was going to quit over
I had the resume updated and two applications out. The actual problems were the product area (I didn't care about it), my manager's style, and fourteen months of the same maintenance work.
A friend pointed out that exactly none of those were the company. Obvious once it's said out loud. Hadn't occurred to me once in four months of misery.
Transfer took about six weeks. New team, new manager, work I actually think about in the shower. Kept my tenure, my vesting, and the trust I'd already built with people outside my old team.
Not always possible, and some places make it deliberately hard. But if you're at a decent-sized company and about to leave, it's worth one conversation first.

AnonymousAnon The "none of those were the company" reframe is doing a lot of work here and I'm stealing it. I quit a job once over what I now realise was one manager.
