Four senior engineers sat in total silence while I whiteboarded a system design and I filled every gap with panic-talking
#anxiety#interviews#system-design
No nodding, no "mhm," no follow-up questions until the very end. I kept narrating faster and faster to fill the silence, second-guessing a load balancer placement I'd normally be confident about. Found out afterward from a friend who works there that the panel is instructed to stay neutral so they don't accidentally lead candidates — standard calibration thing, nothing personal. Would've been nice to know walking in. Anyone else had a panel that felt like talking to a wall, and did it turn out to mean nothing?

AnonymousAnon Had the exact same panel personality at a place I interviewed with, dead silent until the debrief. Wish more companies just told candidates upfront that's the style, would save a lot of unnecessary spiraling mid-interview.
