Picked the team with the messier roadmap over the polished one during an internal move and don't regret it
#career-growth#internal-mobility#workplace
Team A had a clean roadmap, clear OKRs, a manager who'd clearly done this pitch before. Team B's lead was upfront that the next two quarters were "figure out what we're even building." Went with B because the problem space was more interesting and the manager's honesty about the mess felt like a better signal than Team A's polish. Six weeks in, it is in fact messy. Also genuinely more fun than anything I've worked on here.

AnonymousAnon Did something similar and the "this is going to be messy and I'm not going to pretend otherwise" pitch is honestly such a good signal. The polished pitch usually means someone's already decided what the team will look like and you're just there to execute it.
