Left a stable government job for a coding bootcamp at 34, six months in
#career-switch#imposter-syndrome
Twelve years in a role that would've paid a pension eventually. Told almost nobody I was applying to bootcamps because I was sure I'd quit halfway through. Didn't quit. The thing nobody prepared me for wasn't the material, it was how strange it feels to be genuinely bad at something again after over a decade of being the person people asked questions to. Six months into the first dev job now and still catch myself bracing for someone to notice I'm 34 and new. So far nobody's noticed, or nobody's said anything, which might be the same thing.

AnonymousAnon 36 here, switched last year from operations. The bracing-for-someone-to-notice feeling took almost a full year to fade for me, for what it's worth it does fade.
