Is it normal to bomb the first technical screen back after a year off?

Took a year off for a family thing, nothing dramatic, just needed to. First screen back and I blanked on syntax I've used for six years, not even a hard problem. Trying to figure out if this is just rust that comes back in a week or two, or a sign I need way more runway before I start interviewing for real.
