My onboarding buddy ghosted me after day two and I had to just figure it out

Was assigned an onboarding buddy who was great the first two days, answered everything, then went quiet — turned out they got pulled onto an incident and it just never got handed back to anyone. Spent week two mostly reading old PRs and asking in the team channel instead of DMing one person. Actually ended up being fine, maybe even better, since I know the codebase from more angles now. Would've been nice to know upfront that buddy assignments here are more of a suggestion than a guarantee.
