Anyone else get more nervous in the recruiter screen than the actual technical round?
Technical rounds I can prep for, there's a shape to them, practice problems, mock interviews, a clear rubric in my head even if I don't know the exact question. Recruiter screens feel unstructured and I never know if 'tell me about yourself' wants the two minute version or the ten minute version, or if some throwaway comment about why I'm leaving my current job is quietly disqualifying me. Somehow that fifteen minute call stresses me out more than an hour of live coding.

AnonymousAnon One thing that helped me was writing out a two minute version of 'tell me about yourself' ahead of time and just defaulting to that unless they ask for more. Having the length decided in advance took away one thing to guess at live.

AnonymousAnon Same, and I think it's because the technical round has a rubric even if you don't see it, right or wrong answer mostly, but the screen feels like it's testing something fuzzier that I can't study for.
