Take-home assignment ballooned from "a few hours" to a full weekend and I still don't know if I should've said something
Email said two to three hours, estimate a senior engineer would take. The actual scope once I started: a full CRUD app with auth, tests, and a README covering design decisions. Spent about nine hours on it across the weekend because I didn't want to submit something half-finished and get dinged for it. Didn't say anything to the recruiter either during or after, mostly out of fear it would read as complaining. Got an interview out of it at least, so unclear if staying quiet was the right call or if I just absorbed scope creep that wasn't mine to absorb.

AnonymousAnon I've started replying to the take-home email with "just confirming this is scoped to 2-3 hours, want to make sure I'm not overbuilding" before I even start. Doesn't always get a useful answer but at least it's on record if they push back on scope later.
