I scrapped my rehearsed STAR answer three minutes in and just told her the truth

I'd rehearsed my conflict story so many times I could say it in my sleep, fake-clean resolution and all. Then the interviewer asked a follow-up I hadn't planned for and I just blanked. So I dropped the whole script and said, honestly, we never really resolved it, the guy still barely talks to me. She kind of laughed and said that was the first real answer she'd gotten all day. Got the offer two days later. Turns out all that STAR polishing just makes you sound rehearsed, because you are, and people can tell pretty fast.
