recruiter asked my expected salary on the first call and I just... told the truth

I've read a dozen threads about deflecting the salary question back to them. In the moment none of that came out, I just said the number I wanted. She didn't even flinch, we moved straight into scheduling the next round. Maybe the scripts matter less than just picking a number and saying it like you mean it.
