started timing my mock interviews with a real clock instead of guessing and it exposed how slow my ramp-up actually was

Always felt like I had plenty of time left, turns out I was spending eight or nine minutes just restating the problem before writing anything. Started setting a hard two minute cap on clarifying questions. Awkward at first, but the actual coding time nearly doubled.
