Situation at home changed a few weeks after I'd accepted and I almost didn't bring it up out of fear it would look flaky this early. Manager said they'd rather keep me remote than lose me over a policy nobody enforces that strictly anyway. Wish I'd just asked sooner instead of sitting on it.

AnonymousAnon Companies quietly not enforcing the policy that strictly is doing a lot of work in this story though, worth remembering that's not universal. Definitely worth asking, just wouldn't assume every manager reacts the same.
