realized in my second month that the interview questions and the actual day to day work barely overlap and that messed with my head a little

Spent months on graph algorithms and system design diagrams to get the job and now most days are reading existing code, writing tickets, and going to meetings about scope. Not complaining exactly, the job is fine, just wasn't prepared for how disconnected the getting-in process felt from the actual doing-it process.

AnonymousAnon The disconnect between the hiring process and the actual job is one of the weirder open secrets in this industry. Glad the job itself is still fine though.
