Followed up once politely, got a generic 'still in process' reply, followed up again and got silence. Not asking for a rejection at this point, just some kind of closure. Starting to apply elsewhere again so the waiting doesn't feel like the whole plan.
Three weeks of silence after a 'you'll hear back Friday' should honestly be illegal at this point. At least follow up and get a real answer either way.
Silence after a promised date is almost always process stuff on their end, budget approval, other candidates, internal reshuffling, rarely about you specifically. Doesn't make the waiting less annoying but a polite check-in around the two week mark is usually fair game.
