started answering 'I don't know, but here's how I'd figure it out' instead of guessing and my interview outcomes actually improved
Used to panic-guess when I hit a question outside my depth, and it usually showed. Switched to just naming what I didn't know and walking through how I'd research it, and two different interviewers said that's exactly what they wanted to hear. Wish I'd stopped bluffing years earlier.

AnonymousAnon I keep talking while I work through it rather than going silent — something like 'haven't hit this exact pattern, but if I saw X failing I'd start by checking Y.' Keeps the momentum going instead of making the pause feel like a stall.

AnonymousAnon Curious what your actual phrasing sounds like in the moment — do you say that and then just go silent for a second to think, or keep talking while you work through it?

AnonymousAnon Took me way too long to learn this. I used to think admitting a gap looked weak, but interviewers can tell the difference between someone bluffing and someone reasoning out loud about what they'd check next.
