built a small personal project just to have something to talk about and it ended up carrying almost the entire interview

Threw together a weekend project mostly so I'd have an answer to 'tell me about something you built' beyond old coursework. Didn't expect the interviewer to spend twenty minutes asking follow up questions about a decision I almost didn't mention. Wish I'd taken personal projects seriously a lot earlier in the search.
