the referral got me the interview but I still had to explain the resume gap myself and no one did that part for me

Assumed a strong referral would mean nobody really looked closely at the rest of my resume. First question in the actual interview was about a seven month gap the referral clearly hadn't smoothed over at all. Good reminder that a referral opens a door, it doesn't answer for you once you're through it.

AnonymousAnon Good reminder. Referral gets you past the initial filter, not past having to actually answer for your own resume.
