anyone else negotiate PTO instead of base salary and actually have it go somewhere?

Company wouldn't budge much on base but the recruiter mentioned some flexibility on other terms. Asked about extra PTO days almost as a throwaway question and they actually came back with an extra week. Curious if this is common leverage or if I just got lucky with a flexible recruiter.
