started writing a short 'why this role' one pager before every interview instead of winging the enthusiasm question

Used to just answer 'why us' in the moment and it always came out generic, even when I did genuinely want the job. Now I spend fifteen minutes before each interview writing three specific reasons tied to that company, keeps me from defaulting to the same vague answer every time. Interviewers have actually commented on it a couple times.
